Inspiring Woman - Amber Harper

I remember the first time meeting Amber...she had just joined the AAU team that I was playing on. Dynamite 87 was our team name...and we walked around looking like little boys, but you didn't want to see us on the court!! LOL!! I remember Amber came to the team with DEFENSE!!!! We both ended up leaving the team, and then randomly ended up at McMurry University together our freshman year. I only stayed at McMurry for a year...but that didn't stop any of the fun that was had! I vividly remember going out one night with Amber and some others, and they all entrusted me to drive us to and from the club without my glasses on. I can PROMISE you that we had the Lord and ALL of our guardian angels in the car with us that night!!!!!! Over the years I have watched Amber be a complete BOSS in everything that she has done...and lately have been sooooo inspired by her courage and determination to start her own business, and completely KILL it!!!!! I am so than...

Inspiring Woman - Shameka D. Jones

When I came up with the idea of an Inspiring Woman feature for my Blog, I posted a long post about it on Facebook, and asked for nominations for woman. Another cousin of mine nominated this beautiful woman...who also happens to be my big cousin, and I'm so glad she did!! Shameka and I didn't grow up together, because we are a few years apart, and didn't live in the same town, but over the past few years, and with the help of social media, we have gotten to talk more and get to know each other as adults, and even learned that she worked with my boyfriend for a few years back in the day!! What I have been most inspired by that I have seen from Shameka is that I watched (via social media) Shameka build her business from scratch, and never allow her faith to waiver when things got hard. Even when her and I were messaging about her feature, and I told her that I had been feeling like giving up on some things, she encouraged me to keep going, and told me, "keep going cousin!! It gets tough, but somebody needs to see the inspiration!" Thank you so much Shameka for agreeing to participate and for the encouragement!!

I introduce you to the INSPIRING Shameka D. Jones

*Generally speaking, what was your childhood like?

When I realized that I was born on 10/27 at 10:27pm, I knew I was a special and rare breed. My childhood was very interesting, lol. Being the child of a preacher meant a lot of new addresses, new schools, new friendships and new experiences.

*What have you learned over your lifetime that you’d like to share with the younger generation?
What I have learned during my tenure here on earth that I would like to tell the younger generation is to love who you are and appreciate who you are and that comes from knowing WHOSE you are. When you know that, deep down in the crevices of your soul, the only validation you'll need is when you park your car.

*What sacrifices have you had to endure to get to where you are today?
When God decided that to make me a mother, I knew that I would need to get in a position to take care of my children and I made up my mind to set myself up for success, so they would know what hard work and achievement looked like. That came with a lot of tears, failures, but it has also come with a lot of happiness, laughter and success.

*What do you do for a living?
I am the CEO of JCS Financial & Consulting Services LLC. This business was birthed from pain and sadness, but the labor was definitely worth the delivery.

*What motivates you the most?
My son and my daughter motivate me every day in their own way. They are my biggest cheerleaders!

*You are a complete BOSS…as a woman, why do you feel like creating this path for yourself was/is necessary?
As a Servant Leader, creating this path with the Lord's help was very necessary because I started out wanting to educate single parents like myself on how to be financially responsible in every area of their life and how to set themselves and their children up for success as early as possible. That is still my path, but it has expanded to educating families, single parents, adolescents, college students and aspiring entrepreneurs.

*What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was dreaming of my future as a child, I said I had wanted to be an Obstetrician/Gynecologist and deliver babies like I saw Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable do on "The Cosby Show". Lol! I had a passion for it, but little did I know that I would be "bitten" by the Journalism/Media "bug" and forget all about medicine.

*Describe your most important friendship(s).
My friendships are extremely important to me. If I call you my friend, cherish it. If I call you my sister, cherish it. If I feel comfortable enough to invite you to my home, life and into the lives of my children, cherish it. I do not give access to the deepest parts of my heart to just anyone because not everyone deserves that access. I am very careful about who I pour into and who I allow to pour into me. I thank God for the sisters he has placed in my life and how we build, uplift, encourage and are brutally honest with one another. We communicate on every level and we are loyal to one another. I hold each and every one of them near and dear to my heart.

*What would you like your children and grandchildren to remember about you?
I would like my children and possible grandchildren to look back and be able to say that my mother/grandmother wasn't just a strong woman but that she was a warrior. She was a fighter, and she never took "No" for an answer. I want them to say that she fought for what was right, even though it wasn't popular. I want them to be able to say that I loved hard and with a passion and wanted to see people win in life, even though they prayed for me to lose. I want them to say that she made it, she reached her goals and that they will carry on the legacy and carry on the generational wealth that I left for them. I want them to say that I trusted the Lord to the very end of my life's journey, and he never failed me and that I earned my crown on earth and in heaven.

Thank you so much to my amazing big cousin for agreeing to be featured!! I am super thankful that she pushed me to keep going!! She is such a blessing and is totally killing the game!! Please check out her website and Instagram business page.
